Malik Tha Martian presents: ‘Tha resistance’

The Memphis Slim House Collaboratory at 1130 College street in south Memphis is the setting for “Tha Resistance” – a photography exhibition by Johnathan Martin, aka Malik Tha Martian.

A native of south Memphis, Martin will be center stage during the opening reception, which is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday (February 23).

“Tha Resistance” is history captured through the eyes of Malik Tha Martian. The host artists says exhibit-goers will be able to follow Take em down 901 as the group “fought and rallied against the ‘old south’ to get two Confederate monuments removed from city parks.”

By self-description, Martin as Malik Tha Martian has “always viewed the world differently,” using his “awkward eye to document the world as it unfolds around him.”

Martin, who also is freelance photographer for The New Tri-State Defender, said his ultimate goal is to “always show Memphis in a positive light, and to represent for the people that society forgot about.”

The opening reception will feature performances by Hippy Soul, Tayy the Pro and Krucial & Dojo Fam.
