Memphians took advantage of many options to observe the Juneteenth holiday at events across the city the weekend of June 18-20 that offered everything from educational exhibits and freedom rides to festivals, concerts and community gatherings.

At the National Civil Rights Museum tents and picnic tables were set up outside so visitors sit and enjoy barbeque, ice cream and other foods from an array of vendors. The museum also was open to visitors.

Others enjoyed a day of shopping for unique items Saturday at the Shop Black Festival at Martyrโ€™s Park. The park was awash with sunshine and the bright colors of vendor stations and food trucks and groups of festivalgoers such as 40 Double Dutch Club in coordinated red T-shirts jumping rope. The Douglass Freedom & Heritage Festival drew a steady crowd throughout the weekend for festivities under the shade of trees and tents.
