Session to explore opening doors for African-American contractors

The director of the Governor’s Office of Diversity Business Enterprise, Sheila Simpson will be in Memphis Thursday morning to address issues of particular concern to African-American contractors in the Memphis area.
The 8 a.m. session is being hosted by Memphis Business Contracting Consultants (MBCC). It’s set for All World Project Management located at 60 N. B.B. King Blvd. (N. Third St.).
According to its website, the Governor’s Office of Diversity Business Enterprise (Go-DBE) is the “central point of contact to attract and assist minority owned, women owned, businesses owned by persons with disabilities, service-disabled veteran owned and small business enterprises interested in competing in State of Tennessee procurement and contracting activities.”
Citing several state-government funded building projects, MBCC’s Melvin Jones said African American businesses “must receive more dollars from the State,” noting that Simpson is working in multiple areas to that end.
“Ms. Simpson wants to present new ideas. We need to support her, so that she can support us,” he said.
Also on the program will be a special presentation by Eric Robertson, president of Community LIFT and River City Capital.
