Neil White, the girl’s father, was found bleeding from the wrist when police responded to a 911 call at the home. The girl was found dead, and police believe that she was either suffocated or strangled, though an official cause of death has not yet been declared by the medical examiner.
The father was charged with murder on Wednesday and was arraigned at the hospital. He did not entire a plea deal.
The girl was a second-grader at William B. Ward Elementary School and was the daughter of Michelle Hord-White, a vice president at NBC Universal, who married White in 2007. The two of them met in 1992, back when Michelle Hord was the older sister to one of White’s friends, so he was reluctant to date her until they attended a friend’s wedding together and realized that they, too, wanted to get married.
According to officials, grief counselors will be available at the school for anyone who needs them.
