Stax Music Academy (SMA) will host a youth songwriting workshop with Jozzy Donald scheduled on November 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The “Old Town Road” songwriter will share tips on hit songwriting, deconstruct song hooks, and provide a live feedback session of student songs. Designed for area middle and high school students, the workshop is free but seating is limited and attendance requires an RSVP (http://bit.ly/33dhkXy).
Stax Music Academy Executive Director Pat Mitchell Worley said, “Our workshops focus on hands-on activities with skill-building exercises, practical application, demonstration, and critique so students can replicate and understand what they have learned. We can’t wait to facilitate the music knowledge drop Jozzy is going to offer these young music makers.”
The event is part of Stax Music Academy’s song creation and music business initiative, which includes an annual cohort teaching students how to create, protect, produce, distribute, and promote original music.
The Stax Music Academy is located at 910 E. McLemore Ave, adjacent to the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. For more information, visit https://www.staxmusicacademy.org/.
