The NAACP Tennessee State Conference will host a Voter’s Rights Town Hall Meeting on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church Broad, 2835 Broad Street, in Memphis. The event is free and open to the public.

This community forum will bring together leaders, advocates and citizens to discuss the ongoing challenges and strategies surrounding voter access, redistricting and the protection of voting rights across Tennessee. The town hall is in response to Gov. Bill Lee’s convening a special legislative session to redistrict congressional seats in Tennessee.

Lee’s order comes after the Supreme Court ruled in a Louisiana case that race could not be used in redistricting congressional districts.

The town hall comes at a pivotal time as concerns continue to rise about policies and proposals that could impact fair representation. Organizers say the event will focus on education, engagement and action.

“This is about protecting the fundamental right to vote and ensuring every voice is heard,” said Gloria J. Sweet Love, President of the Tennessee State Conference NAACP. “We are calling on the community to come out, get informed and be part of the strategy to safeguard our democracy.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear from community and civic leaders
  • Engage in open dialogue on voter rights
  • Learn actionable steps to protect voting access
  • Participate in organizing efforts to address redistricting concerns
