No longer is it “Candidate” or “Mayor-Elect” Paul Young. It’s The Honorable Mayor Paul Young.

As is tradition for Memphis after city elections, Young and the men and women he will work with on the Memphis City Council were sworn in on New Year’s Day at the Cannon Center.

“I want you to know, that collectively we are on a mission to save our city — RIGHT NOW,” Young said in his inaugural address, a signal to the wave of violent crime that’s plagued the city in recent months. “The past doesn’t matter. The future is all we’re thinking about right now. The partisanship doesn’t matter. The future of our young babies is all we’re thinking about right now.”

More in-depth coverage from TSD is on the way, but if you’d like to watch some or all of the ceremony yourself, ABC24 live-streamed the event on YouTube. And check back later for TSD’s latest coverage on Mayor Young and his first days in office.
