Police in Chicago are searching for a man who tried to kidnap an 8-year-old girl on Sunday.

The girl was playing outside her grandmotherโ€™s home and riding her bike as the kids in the family waited for dinner to be ready when a man came up behind her and put a plastic bag over her head. However, the girl fought back and kicked her would-be kidnapper. She was able to get away and rushed to her grandmotherโ€™s house to call for help.

โ€œYou could see in her face something was wrong. She is not a crybaby, so she wasnโ€™t crying. She was just confused as of the incident that took place,โ€ Cheniece Kidd, the victimโ€™s mother, said.

โ€œIt is strange. It is scary. It is very sickening and this is a family block,โ€ Kidd said, later adding,ย โ€œI am scared, not just for my kids but for everyone elseโ€™s kids.โ€

โ€œWe thought everything was fine because around here we kind of look out for each other, you know. So something like this you donโ€™t really just expect to happen,โ€ said Teressia Kidd, the grandmother of the little girl.

โ€œI am extremely proud that I raised a fighter. She is not going to give up and let nobody take her. She knows she has family that loves her and wants her home,โ€ Kidd said.

According to ABC7: โ€œThe offender is described as a black male, 5 feet 5 inches tall and of medium build, approximately 40 years old, with a bald head. He has a tattoo of a heart on his neck and was wearing a brown long sleeve shirt, black pants, and blue low-top shoes.โ€

Anyone with information on the would-be kidnapper is asked to call police atย 312-744-8261.
