Essence is coming to Memphis for the first time!
Not Nashville, not Birmingham but right here to our hometown.
They have partnered with Ford for the My City, 4 Ways tour to throw a fabulous shindig at Propcellar (2585 Summer Ave.) on Saturday (November 11) from noon to 5 p.m. We are stop number four.
I am super excited about this and not just because I get to work this event but because this is a big step for our city. We long to be acknowledged as a “real” city, meaning a legit metropolitan area. This kind of brand association gives us a little cache, yes?
Memphis has been getting a lot of mentions in shows and movies – Bow’s mom is from Memphis in “Black-ish”; Cam moved to Atlanta from Memphis in “Survivor’s Remorse”; Annalise is from Memphis in HTGAWM (“How to Get Away With Murder”) and so on. But it’s nice to have those super crucial shout outs translate to IRL (in real life) experiences like this.
The My City, 4 Ways event features local influencers in the areas of art, style, food and music – Jamond Bullock, Karleen Roy, Desmond Arthur and Keia Johnson respectively. Each of these young Memphians is at the top of his/her game.
Then they have the adorable twin girl DJs, DJ Tootz (Big Toot and Little Toot) on the 1’s and 2’s. THEN on top of all of this Memphis firepower, they are bringing Kelis, Ro James, Loni Love (comedienne and co-host of “The Real”), style-maven June Ambrose and Charreah Jackson (Essence Lifestyle and Relationships Editor) to the party.
AND you’ll have the opportunity to drive the Ford of your choice while there.
Even though I will be working, I am looking forward to every minute of this event. I’m thankful to Essence for showing us some love, so let’s be sure to love them back. We want more of this for the city and for Memphians.
