Comedy star Marlon Wayans stopped by McDonald’s – and fans were lovin’ it

A local Whitehaven McDonald’s kicked off the Holiday season with a little breakfast and a lot of laughter, courtesy of movie and TV sitcom star Marlon Wayans.

“You know, I’m just really happy to be here,” said Wayans, on hand to help promote McDonald’s new Triple Breakfast Stacks. “I love giving back, but I’m just so surprised that it’s so many people up early this morning!”

Wayans, the youngest sibling of the star-studded Wayans comedy dynasty, carved out his own career in 90s film with “Don’t Be A Menace,” and the Scary Movie series before starring with his brother Shawn in “The Wayans Brothers.” He currently is starring in his own NBC sitcom, “Marlon.”

And despite a long and successful career, he hasn’t forgotten his family’s lean years.

“Having so many siblings, there were things I wanted but I couldn’t have,” Wayans said. “So it’s a blessing to be able to come to Memphis and give back.”

The popular eatery was filled to capacity as fans and shoppers waited for their chance to shake hands with the man who laughed his way into our hearts. Wayans often expressed his gratitude by jumping on the tables waving to fans from afar.

“I just happened to hear about it at work and I’m so excited,” said Chatara Richardson. “I’ve been a fan of Marlon since ‘The Wayans Brothers’ and his stand-ups, and to have breakfast with him is so cool!”

Wayans continued to top the morning off as he surprised a McDonald’s employee and random Wal-Mart shoppers with a shopping spree around the store. One Wal-Mart Shopper cried as she was surprised by the nice gesture. “This is truly a blessing, and it came right on time for my son’s birthday.” she said.

“It feels really good especially right around the holiday season,” Wayans said. “You never know what people are going through. And who doesn’t like a surprise?”

A representative from Burrell Communications, who coordinated the promotion, said McDonald’s “Holiday Grind Break” is just one of many campaigns that demonstrates its continuous commitment to the communities it serves.

“It’s our goal to make sure that consumers know that no matter the community, near or far, that we’re here and we fully support them,” the spokeswoman said.
