Many Black women have spoken out about the backlash they’ve faced in workspaces when it comes to their natural hair. Erin Patten, the founder of hair care line DAO  meaning Defy All Odds, knows all about that experience.

After resigning and going through the motions of feeling insecure about her curly hair, she decided to turn lemons into lemonade and start her own business– DAO– alongside her husband Will Marshall.

It’s is a plant-based hair company, that promotes embracing your natural hair for all ethnicities and hair types. The product line is nicknamed the “Divine 7” and it features a cleanser, conditioner, moisturizing spray, repair oil, and gel.

DAO products recently won the new voices pitch competition during The Essence Festival and received $15,000.

If you’re ready to #defyallodds and embrace the real you, DAO defines that.
