Holiday closures

City of Memphis administrative offices, including Memphis Animal Services, libraries and community centers, will be closed in observance of Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 10.

The City will resume normal business hours Monday, Nov. 13.

City residents serviced by the contractor Inland Waste will not be impacted by the holiday.

For those who use Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA), the buses will run on a normal schedule.

The closure will not affect the Memphis Police Department, Memphis Fire Services, Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA), Pink Place Museum or the Lichterman Nature Center.

Salute set in Millington

Senate Minority Leader Lee Harris, along with Shelby County Commissioner Terry Roland and Millington Alderman Frankie Dakin, will host a Veterans Day Town Hall and Luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Mayor Terry Jones of Millington, a veteran himself, will be the guest speaker. A representative from the Tennessee Department of Veterans Services will share information on services the state offers and answer questions. Harris, Roland and Dakin will make a special presentation to three Veterans for their dedicated service.

The event is set for noon on at the Hampton Inn and Suites at 8838 Highway 51 N. in Millington. Veterans and spouses are encouraged to RSVP by Thursday, Nov. 9 to Shirley Frierson at 615-741-1767 or [email protected].

BRIEFLY: The Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) will give free rides on all MATA buses to any veteran or active Military member who presents a veterans’ card or any other military identification on Saturday (Nov. 11). For more information, visit www.matatransit.com.

BRIEFLY: In honor of Veteran’s Day this weekend, Orgill Park Golf Course has decided to offer a special golfing rate, along with a lunch special for both Saturday and Sunday.

Any retired or active military will be able to play golf at Orgill Park for $20 for 18 holes, including the cart. An “All American Special”  will feature a Nathan’s Hot Dog, Chips, and a fountain drink for $4. Tee times are recommended in advance.  For details, call the pro shot at 901-872-3610.
