Habari Gani!
The Tri-State Defender is honored to celebrate Kwanzaa with you! As we journey through the seven principles of the Nguzo Saba, we reflect on their power to inspire growth, unity, and cultural pride. Each day brings us closer to a deeper understanding of how these values shape our lives and communities.
Yesterday, we lit the second green candle for Nia (Purpose), reflecting on the collective mission of restoring greatness to our families and communities. Today, we light the third red candle on the left side of the kinara, symbolizing Kuumba (Creativity).
Letโs also take a moment to explore how creativity can transform our lives and communitiesโand highlight local events that bring people together in the spirit of Kuumba.
Celebrating Kuumba
Kuumba challenges us to use our creative talents to leave our communities better than we found them. This principle inspires innovation, imagination, and artistry, urging us to make meaningful contributions that uplift and empower future generations.
Dr. Maulana Karenga explained the significance of Kuumba:
โWe must always do as much as we can, in the way we can, to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.โ
Reflections
As we light the third red candle, think about how your creativity can serve a purpose greater than yourself. How can your ideas, talents, and actions bring beauty and transformation to your community?
Today, let your creativity flowโwhether itโs through art, music, writing, problem-solving, or acts of kindness. Kuumba reminds us that even small creative efforts can make a lasting impact.
