Lyfe is Dope opens doors with Teen Edition

After five successful years of Life is Dope, founders David Parks and K97’s DJ Dnyce are gearing up for the latest edition of the underground franchise, with this one dedicated to the talented teens of Memphis.

Themed as the “Teen Edition,” the multi-media showcase will highlight the varied talents of local youth.

“Lyfe is Dope has been an amazing platform for local underground Memphis artists,” said Parks. “So we thought about the teenagers in the city and decided they too should have a platform to showcase themselves in a fun-filled environment.”

The mission for the Lyfe is Dope Teen Edition is to provide students with an opportunity to learn and perform on a high level of stage and music production.

On Sunday April 15, teens (13-18) from various parts of the Mid-south will participate in an “American Idol” style audition judged by industry leading professionals.

“We’re looking for all types of talent,” said DJ Dnyce. “If you can sing, dance or do comedy the New Daisy Theatre is where you want to be.”

Ten students will be selected in the first Lyfe is Dope Teen Edition lineup scheduled for May 27.

“We’re excited to branch off a platform that will give the youth the ability to express themselves,” said Parks. “Just to be here five years and have the support we have, it really boosts our confidence to continue pressing the boundaries of the Memphis music culture as a whole, and that includes everyone, even the kids.”

The New Daisy Theatre is located at 330 Beale St. The auditions are set for noon to 6 p.m.
