Lane College will dedicate a statue to its founder during the 2018 Commencement weekend, April 27 at 6 p.m.

Bishop Isaac Lane of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church founded Lane in 1882. This is the first statue to be placed on the campus in Jackson, Tenn. The Rev. Dr. L. LaSimba M. Gray Jr., who served as president of the 1968 graduating class, is donating it.

“I wanted to give back to Lane College something special as I celebrate the 50th Anniversary of my graduation from Lane,” said Gray, pastor emeritus of New Sardis Baptist Church.

“I will celebrate 50 years of having graduated from Lane with the following Memphians; Georgia Macklin Lowe, Elder Robert L. Stewart, Anderson E. Cook. Lavern N. Miller, Mary P. UpShaw, Betty Ervin, Angeline Vaulx, Castle C. Brown, Wayne Douglas, Martha R. Fayne, David Donald and Leon Freeman.
