Avery Sunshine, soul singer and award-winning artist, returns to Memphis as featured artist for Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church’s annual Christmas celebration on December 8 at 7:30 p.m.
With her musical roots in church, Avery grew up singing in her church choir in Pennsylvania. Later, she worked as a minister of music for a church after graduating from Spelman College in Atlanta.
Since her debut as a solo artist in 2010, Avery has shared the stage with musical greats, and considers her music as “ministry.” She is currently touring North America to promote her latest album, “Twenty Six Four.”
Joining Avery during ‘Noel! Noel!’ will be The Blvd Sanctuary Chorus and Orchestra and a host of talented artists from Memphis and elsewhere. The deep talent pool includes award-winning singer Stefanie Bolton, renowned gospel artist Carla Tolbert-Taylor, classical recording artist Roderick Dixon, Ava Denise Graves, Juicy Fruit and the Collage dance Collective.
“Every year, we bring stellar artists, national and local to the stage to celebrate the birth of Jesus,” said Dr. Leo Davis, director of worship. “We’re excited to welcome such a powerhouse, soulful voice like Avery Sunshine to The Blvd. and to Memphis. There is something for everyone who loves the arts and good music.”
The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m at The Blvd.’s Midtown campus at 70 N. Bellevue.
