Years ago, Memphis Madness was a precursor to the Tigers Hoops season, a way to introduce the team to the city and to build excitement for the start of college basketball at The University of Memphis.

But ever since Penny Hardaway was introduced as head coach, there’s been nothing BUT excitement surrounding the program.

So we’d have to imagine that when Memphis Madness returns to FedExForum on Oct. 4, the arena – and maybe the whole city – will be on fire with enthusiastic fans. Hardaway and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Melissa McFerrin, will be joined by the men’s and women’s basketball teams, spirit squads, Pouncer and the Mighty Sound of the South.

From gotigersgo.com:

Memphis Madness begins with live music on the plaza, starting at 5 p.m. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and both teams will be available for autographs on the concourse. The on-court program will begin at 7 p.m.

All seats will be reserved, and tickets for Memphis Madness will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 8 a.m. Plaza and Club Level seats are $10 each, while all Terrace level seats are $5. There is a limit of six seats per purchase.

UofM students will receive free admission, and ticket pickup information will be released during the first week of classes.

Fans can purchase tickets beginning Wednesday, Sept. 5, by visiting www.GoTigersGoTix.com, or by calling 901.678.2331.

That’s going to be a hot ticket. In the meantime, watch this clip to see what Coach Penny has to say about reviving classic regional rivalries with teams like Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Also, why he’s embracing the tougher schedule and why he and the team feel like it’s “tournament or bust.”
