Tigers play on: University of Memphis to host San Diego in NIT first round on Tuesday at FedExForum

The Memphis Tigers did not make it to the NCAA Tournament, but did receive a bid for the NIT. This will be the first time in four years that the Tigers have appeared in a postseason tournament. The Tigers will be a No. 3 seed in their bracket and will face the University of San Diego Toreros.

The game will be played on Tuesday March 19 at FedExForum and can be seen on ESPN3 or watchespn.com. The Tigers won the NIT in 2002 under coach John Calipari with a 72-62 victory over South Carolina. The last time the team was in the NIT was in 2010 under first year head coach Josh Pastner.

Kyvon Davenport suffered an injury before playing Houston in the semi-finals in the American Athletic Conference tournament and may not be available for this game. Jeremiah Martin was named to the All-AAC Tournament team. Martin scored 23 points in the loss to Houston.

The quarterfinals will be held March 26 and 27 and four teams will advance to New York for the semifinals on Tuesday, April 2. The NIT will conclude with the championship game on Thursday, April 4. The semifinal and championship games will be played at Madison Square Garden for the 82nd year.
