The entire crowd on Beale Street stood speechless Saturday morning during ESPN College GameDay as screens played a part of Tigers’ RB Kenneth Gainwell’s life they knew nothing about.
Gainwell and his family are from Yazoo County Mississippi. Kenneth and older brother Curtis grew up playing and practicing football in their yard.
“Curtis was the one that always showed us the ropes and made sure we did everything right,” Kenneth said of his brother.
It was while he was in the weight room at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg that Curtis’s life would change forever.
“I didn’t feel good that day, I knew something was wrong,” said Curtis. “But I didn’t know it was a stroke.”
