An 11-year-old Bronx, N.Y., girl sustained serious burns after her “friends” poured boiling water on her face during a sleepover early Monday morning.

Seriously, with friends like those, who needs enemies?

According to NY1, the girl, identified as Jamoneisha Merritt, was sleeping but was jolted awake after the water was poured on her. She suffered burns to her face, neck, shoulders and chest.

The news station said that the sick stunt was part of what has been dubbed the “hot-water challenge’” in which an unsuspecting victim has hot water thrown on him or her.

I’m honestly not sure who comes up with these stupid (not to mention life-threatening) stunts, but they obviously lack common sense, as well as any form of empathy.

Jamoneisha’s mom, Ebony, said that the little girl is in a lot of physical and emotional pain and they are currently not letting her look at her injuries. According to Ebony Merritt, the group Jamoneisha was hanging out with had allegedly been bullying her before the incident.

“She’s very sad. She’s emotionally messed up. She don’t understand why they did that to her. She thought they was her friends,” Ebony Merritt said. “I was told that they didn’t like her. And they just been bullying her. They’ve been on Snapchat. It’s been going on several times. The girl admitted it: ‘I don’t like her. I wanted to do it.’”

There was an adult home at the time of the incident. A 12-year-old girl is being charged with felony assault in the case.
