The body of a missing 5-year-old autistic boy has been removed from a pond after being discovered by authorities, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced Thursday, April 10.
Kayden Nolen’s lifeless body was retrieved this morning, following a search of The Residences at Lakeview apartment complex by Memphis Police Department personnel. He was reported missing at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9.
TBI made the announcement shortly after 12 p.m. Thursday
“It is with heavy hearts that we update this Endangered Child Alert with news that 5-year-old Kayden Nolen has been located deceased,” TBI said in a statement. “We are keeping his family, friends and those who knew him in our hearts and offer our most sincere condolences in their loss.”
The child wandered off from his residence, after his aunt had fallen asleep while babysitting. In previous instances, family members had been able to find Kayden.
“Our hearts are broken. This is a tragedy that has deeply affected not only Kayden’s loved ones but our entire community. The loss of a child is a pain no family should ever have to endure, and we stand with Kayden’s family as they face this unimaginable heartbreak,” read an MPD statement.
