Early on Monday, an 11-year-old girl was attending a sleepover and was attacked by another girl, who poured boiling water on her face.
Jamoneisha Merritt has suffered second-degree burns to her face and shoulders, police said on Wednesday, after the boiling water attack. A 12-year-old girl was charged with assault after Jamoneisha was rushed to Harlem Hospital’s burn unit.
Jamoneisha’s cousin, Yolanda Richardson, said that Jamoneisha and the older girl had been arguing at the sleepover, and that the 12-year-old had told her not to go to sleep.
“She told her if she goes to sleep they were going to do something to her,” Richardson told NBC 4.
Jamoneisha’s family has not yet shown her the extent of her burns.
