Avid activist and famed film director Spike Lee posted information Tuesday about a rally that will take place Aug. 23 at the NFL’s New York City headquarters in support of Colin Kaepernick, the free agent quarterback who’s without a team because he protested the killing of unarmed black men, women and children by police.

Lee shared the info on social media, where he has over 1 million followers:

Lee tweeted that while he didn’t “set up the protest,” he does support Kaepernick, according to Bleacher Report.

With the NFL season on the horizon, Kaepernick remains unsigned. The quarterback opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers at the end of the previous season to test the free agent market. Many believe that Kaepernick is being blackballed by the NFL for his decision to kneel during the national anthem in silent protest of police brutality toward people of color.

The only team even to invite Kapernick in for a visit was the Seattle Seahawks, who chose not to sign the 29-year-old. The Baltimore Ravens also expressed interest in Kaepernick and even asked for Kaepernick supporters to show the club how much they supported him, only to stop answering calls, Bleacher Report notes.

Kaepernick threw for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions as a starter for the San Francisco 49ers, but the team went 1-10 with him behind center.
